1. Sevilla FC is the oldest club from Seville and the second oldest from Andalusia, having been established in 1905. The announcement of its creation was made by the Civil Governor of Seville. The club’s first official game was not played until three years later.
2. The club scored a trophy after a 58 year gap during the 2006 UEFA Cup Final and gained fame as the first Andalusian team to win a final in Europe. Three months later, they won their second European trophy at the 2006 UEFA Super Cup, playing against Champions League title holders FC Barcelona to score a striking 3-0.
3. The club mourned the death of Antonio Puerta with a moment of silence prior to each game they played throughout the Liga season for 2007-2008. During the European Super Cup in 2007, AC Milan did not celebrate their victory over Sevilla FC out of respect for Puerta. Antonio Puerta’s number 16 shirt was never to be used again, but was given to his son to wear when he played a match for Sevilla.
4. Sevilla FC stocks are distributed among a few shareholders and a large foundation of fans, making the club one of the few to be owned by its fans.
5. For the first and only time in their history, Sevilla FC held the title of League Champions in the 1945-46 season.
6. Sevilla FC is supported by over 400 male players, including two semiprofessional teams and eleven youth teams. The club also manages a woman’s football team.
7. The first international players to be added to the team were Spencer and Herminio. Juan Arza, another international player, went on to become the top scorer during the 1954-55 season of the spanish League, with a grand total of 29.
8. The club’s home stadium is the largest in Spain and was used to host a World Cup semifinal in 1982.
9. The three figures depicted on the shield are the same as those on the City’s shield: Saint Isidoro, Saint Fernando, and Saint Leandro. The red and white stripe design is reminiscent of the flag borne by King Fernando III The Saint during his conquest of Seville in 1248.
10. The club has played a total of 1990 matches, of which 789 were won, 445 were tied, and 756 were lost.
