3 Most Important Football Skills for positions on offense and defense

Football is a familiar game around the world. This popular game is known by different names (say) soccer, fussball, futbol etc. With millions of fans, there are many opportunities for kids to to learn this game too. The Summer Camp is an excellent place to learn how to play flag football. Countless numbers of summer camps have started to provide football training, but not all of them will teach you the much needed skills for become a actual better football player. It is very important to make sure that the summer camp that you choose will give you the three skills that are important playing football.

1. The speed
Speed is the key factor that decides the success of a professional football player. Speed is very important for the players in the offensive position. As the offense players have an important role in flag football, he needs to be fast and precise in passing the game. It has to be noted that a slow offensive player in flag football can cause enough damage to loose the game. Various training techniques are used today to increase the speed of the flag football players. You should have noted that the very best football training summer camps will give much importance to speed than anything else.

2. Breaking towards the sidelines
The offense player of the flag football team should also be able to break towards the sidelines immediately after catching the ball. Breaking towards the sidelines after catching the ball at the highest point will prevent the defenders of the game from getting the best angle to grab the flags. Moreover, breaking towards the sidelines will limit the number of flags that the defenders of the game will be able to grab. Hence the skill of quickly breaking towards the sidelines is necessary to become successful in flag football.

3. The defense players should be fast and aggressive
It must be noted that the defense line up of flag football must be very aggressive. The aggressiveness of the defense players will force the offense players of the other team to make mistakes and will provide the opportunity to pick more flags. When compared to the skills needed for a player in offense position, the defense player skills are easy to develop.

Flag Football Strategies – Offense

This article will cover flag football strategies. I am going to assume you are coaching or playing 7-on-7 flag football.

Offense in flag consists of a couple of key things, first misdirection. Misdirection is key for running an efficient offense. Reverses, halfback passes, and having your offensive lineman pass are some very effective trick plays. Those plays are a good place to start from. You can add your unique touches on these plays. Try to run a trick play once every 12-15 plays.

Next, remember to use your offensive lineman for catching passes. Most teams just use their offensive linemen to block. Using your offensive lineman to only block will limit your offense. For example, when starting a game, start the game by passing to your offensive lineman. As the defensive begins to key on your offensive lineman, your wide receivers will begin to get open for the deep passes.

Speed is key in flag football, especially for offensives. Every position should have a player who has speed, even your offensive lineman. A slow offensively player does more damage to your offense and will also slow your offense down. There may be some situations where you may want a big slow lineman in the game but these situations should come rarely. With fast players on the field the defense will not be able to key out your top offensive performers. Speed, speed, and more speed mixed with misdirection plays will help you score a ton of points.

Somethings you should practice with your offensive units are breaking towards the sidelines after a catch, catching the ball at the highest point, and blocking. Teach your players to break towards the sidelines. There are two reasons for this: First the sidelines cut off the numbers of flags the defenders can pull and second, it makes it tough for the defenders to get a good angle to pull the flags that are available. Catching the ball at the highest point teaches your players to be aggressive and to go up and get the ball. A simple drill to use is to have a head to head competition between two players. Toss the ball and allow the players to fight for it. The loser runs a lap and if they both drop the ball then they both run a lap. Blocking is key and the blocks do not have to be quality blocks. Pretty much your players just have to put a body on someone. One key block can lead to a big play for your offense. These are basic flag football strategies, you can build from here.

How to Find a Flag Football League in Your Area

Flag football is one of the fastest growing sports. It has been around for many decades, but only within the last 10+ years has it exploded to beyond the college campus. Now, there are flag football leagues in most every county in the United States and many countries around the world.

How do you get involved? Follow these steps from Go Flag Football and you will soon find your way into the wonderful sport.

1. First contact your local parks and recreation department. They will be part of the local government agencies in a web search or phone book. Try to make your way to the director of sports and recreation. This person or department will be able to tell you if they run a league. If they do have a league, confirm that it is adult or youth.

2. Contact the Intramural Department of your nearest college/university. They may not have an “open” league but they should be able to help you find the nearest public league.

3. Perform the dreaded internet search. I say dreaded because you will literally find millions of results for “flag football.” In your search, be sure to include the city, county, and state you are located in. This may help some. Take your time and review the results of the search. You may not get a direct answer from the first few sites, but they may help point you in the right direction. Some sites will have leagues listed that they are aware of.

4. Perform an internet search on “flag football tournaments” for your area. If you have any good results, contact the tournament director for additional league information. There is a good chance the tournament director has done the homework and knows of the leagues in the area.

5. Send emails to everyone you know. With the sport as popular as it is, someone is bound to know about a local league.
